Wuhan star set sail: Amazon uses fourth distribution center in Austria to speed up peak season deliveries
Wuhan Xingqihang learned that according to foreign media reports, on September 15, Amazon’s fourth distribution center opened in Klagenfurt, Austria, was put into use. The opening of the new center will help the retail giant improve "last mile" shipping efficiency this upcoming holiday season.
Amazon has reportedly invested more than 40 million euros in the new distribution center, which now employs 110 workers after eight months of construction. Packages from Amazon's FBA and sorting centers are delivered to the distribution center every night, and then sorted by workers according to the delivery route and delivered to customers the next day. The distribution area of the center extends from Klagenfurt and the surrounding area to western Styria.
Amazon said that through the new distribution center, it created attractive and safe jobs for local residents, including sorters, dispatchers and managers. Amazon also works with 3 local delivery providers and indirectly employs more than 100 delivery drivers. The extra workers will greatly increase Amazon's delivery speeds as the peak season approaches.
Anthony Pink, managing director of Fraktal Developments, said the new distribution center is the result of a collaboration between the Klagenfurt government, Amazon and Fraktal and will benefit from a number of Austrian companies.
Xingqihang learned that according to Amazon's recently released "2022 Austrian Small and Medium Business Report". Currently, more than 2,500 Austrian SMEs sell on Amazon, including more than 400 in Carinthia and Styria. In 2021, Austrian SMEs achieved a major breakthrough in sales on Amazon, with exports totaling 500 million euros.
Since 2016, Amazon has been continuously expanding its local presence in Austria. As of now, Amazon has 4 distribution centers, 1 AWS office and 1 data center in Austria. In 2021 alone, Amazon will invest more than 160 million euros in Austria. Now, Amazon has invested 330 million euros in the region. In addition, Amazon now has more than 600 warehouse workers in Austria, as well as 600 delivery drivers.
