Worse! "Black Friday" may encounter multinational Amazon workers strike

The Black Friday peak season is approaching, and cross-border sellers are stepping up their actions for this year's big promotion activities. Everyone is preparing to show their skills on Black Friday. However, a news came, which made sellers nervous.

According to foreign media reports, recently, the coalition of workers and labor organizations "Make Amazon Pay" called for Amazon employees to strike in the company's operating departments such as data centers, factories and warehouses. The organization wants Amazon's employees in 30 countries, including India, Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United States, to shut down on Black Friday (November 25).

The coalition called on Amazon to improve worker conditions, pay more taxes and reduce carbon emissions. “As we all know, prices have been rising due to inflation, and as people overspend on Black Friday, greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide from delivery will also rise, causing global warming. But Amazon is not paying for it, no Fairly pay workers and taxes due and be responsible for environmental damage, but take "every drop of blood" from workers, communities and the planet.

This year, due to the economic downturn and inflation in various countries, the consumption capacity of people in various countries has been severely reduced, and strikes have occurred frequently, which has seriously affected the operation of the entire supply chain.

In the early morning of November 4th, Beijing time (Wednesday morning local time), dock workers at the Port of Oakland on the West Coast of the United States suddenly went on strike. Many container terminals including Everport, TraPac, OICT and Howard were closed, and terminal operations were completely suspended! There is currently a major disruption to the supply chain, setting off a domino effect in the usually bustling port.

The Port of Oakland issued an early warning and introduced the reason for the sudden strike "because the labor contract has expired" and the transportation costs of union civilians who live farther away. Prior to that, Auckland docks had been waiting more than 10 days for a berth due to underutilization by unions, and any additional shutdown would only exacerbate the situation.

When the peak season comes every year, logistics and transportation have always been a headache for sellers. Sellers concentrated on stockpiling, and the market volume increased sharply, resulting in a shortage of flights and congestion at ports. Every year, many sellers miss the promotion time due to logistics delays. Not only are there backlogs of unsalable goods, but the advertising costs invested in the early stage are wasted and the store rankings are affected by out-of-stocks. Especially in such uncontrollable emergencies, once the port staff strikes, it will affect more than two or three days. The ships arriving at the port could not dock normally, and the goods that docked were not unloaded, and the goods accumulated at the port could not be loaded and transshipped. Once the congestion was formed, it would take at least two weeks or even a month to slowly sort out and solve it.

And such emergencies are unpredictable, but basically happen every year. Sellers can only make plans to deal with this situation, and third-party overseas warehouses are a good choice. Sellers can stock up in bulk in the off-season in advance and store them in overseas warehouses in the United States. The cost of long-term storage in overseas warehouses is relatively cheap, far lower than the storage costs of Amazon's official warehouses. If you are worried about product sales, you can only prepare one month's sales, and you don't need to prepare a lot of goods to cause financial pressure.

When the peak season comes, if the goods in normal transportation are delayed into the warehouse due to unexpected situations such as ship delay, port congestion or customs inspection, the seller can first transfer a batch of goods from the overseas warehouse in the United States to the Amazon warehouse to avoid the warehouse being out of stock. , and then make a replenishment plan based on the situation of the delayed goods. If you encounter an Amazon employee strike, you don’t have to worry about it. Sellers can still ship directly from overseas warehouses in the United States to customers.

Overseas warehouses in the United States can also be transferred to other countries such as Canada and Mexico, and are not limited to a single platform. They can be transferred to multiple platform warehouses such as Amazon, eBay, and Walmart at the same time, which solves the problem of replenishment of small and medium-sized sellers on different platforms. Don't worry about the shortage of goods, you can only transport them by expensive international express. It can be sent to overseas warehouses in the United States as a batch, and then the goods are sorted in the overseas warehouses and transferred to different platforms for shelves.
