According to Xingqihang, recently, a large-scale drone test flight was carried out on the Greek island of Naxos, marking the official start of the " smart island " cooperation project between the Greek government and Amazon.

The " Smart Island " cooperation project was born in July last year when Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis held friendly talks with Jeff Bezos, founder of Internet giant Amazon, on the prospects of digital development in Greece . Both parties expressed a strong intention to cooperate, and then Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) conducted a survey on the implementation prospects of the project in Greece, and selected Naxos as the first pilot island.

The " smart island " project concept has three pillars: 1. Sustainability, reducing the energy and environmental burden of the island through intelligent services; 2. Effectively improving communications, transportation, medical services and other services, and improving the quality of life of island residents; 3. Attracting tourists and Long-term residence of digital nomads increases tourism traffic to Naxos and the Cyclades.

At present, large-scale test flights are being carried out for drones used for the transportation of medicines and emergency rescue, and the flight range of these drones includes not only Naxos, but also many nearby islands. At the same time, these drones are equipped with cameras and telemedicine systems, which can monitor the conditions of the sea within 12 kilometers of the coastline, and are connected with the Naxos Island Coast Guard alarm system to facilitate timely detection of danger and emergency rescue. In the early stages of the project, the drones were still manually operated by staff. After performance and safety testing, the drug delivery service can be implemented, and it only takes a few minutes from the dispensing of the drug in the hospital to the delivery of the drug to the patient.

In addition, the parking spaces on the island have been installed with electronic sensors to monitor the traffic flow in real time, which is convenient for the intelligent management of the parking lot. The Amazon Web Services department said that the next stage of the project will focus on the construction of smart terminals. At present, Amazon's professional team is investigating various terminals on Naxos Island to understand the relevant information and facility conditions.
