Do you feel like Amazon is charging you too much for FBA? Many people feel that way . While Amazon FBA is set up to run as smoothly as possible for both sellers and consumers, mistakes do happen. Sometimes your product can be measured incorrectly – causing you to overpay for FBA.
Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't catch these errors and doesn't alert you when you've been overcharged, so most sellers probably don't even know they've been overcharged and just accept the fee that shows up in Seller Central. You may overpay for months or even years in FBA fees.
Luckily for sellers, though, there is a way for you to be compensated for every potential overcharge. If you suspect Amazon is overcharging you, you can have them re-measure and re-weigh your products through what's called a stereo scanner.
Description of Amazon FBA Fees
First, whether you sell on Amazon through Merchant Fulfilled or Fulfilled by Amazon (FBM or FBA), you will be charged a referral fee. Referral fees are "commissions" paid to Amazon each time a sale is made on Amazon's platform. Typically, this fee is a fixed percentage, usually 15% or less.
Otherwise, there will be a slight fee difference between FBA and FBM. We'll cover the high-level differences below, and you can learn more about all Amazon fees here.
FBA fees
If you sell on Amazon using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), you pay a fee to cover fulfillment costs – picking, packing, and shipping for all orders.
FBA fees are based on the weight and dimensions of your product (in our opinion, it is 100% value for money when you are charged correctly).
The following are examples of Amazon's current FBA fulfillment fees for non-clothing and apparel items:

As you can see, Amazon has various size classes your product may fall into. Note that dimensions and weights will include the packaging Amazon uses to ship your product.
Side note: This is why your product packaging is so important! You want your product to be in the smallest size class possible.
Why you might be overcharged for FBA
When you start selling brand new products on Amazon and send your inventory to an FBA warehouse, Amazon will measure your products (including packaging) to determine your FBA fees. While these measurements are accurate in most cases, it's possible that Amazon will measure your product incorrectly.
Even if your product isn't brand new (and you've been using FBA for a long time), it's still possible that Amazon will remeasure or reweigh your product and change dimensions or weights during delivery.
Why is this happening? Amazon is handling the storage, picking, packing and shipping of millions of products, so human error can occur.
The good news is that Amazon knows this, and they'll get it right. But it's important that you stay on top of everything that involves your Amazon business.
How to find out what FBA fees you were charged
There are a few ways you can see how your FBA fees are being charged. The quickest and easiest way is to check the Manage Inventory section of Seller Central.
In Seller Central, go to Inventory > Manage Inventory.

Find your product and you'll see the "Estimated cost per unit sold" column. Click the drop-down menu to see a breakdown of all fees you've been charged.

If for some reason you don't see this column, on the right, above Inventory, you'll see a preference button. Click Preferences to select the columns you want to display. Then check "Estimated Cost Per Unit Sold".

To find out which size and size class your product belongs to, follow these steps:
In Seller Central, go to Reports > Fulfillment. On the left, go to the Payments section and click Fee Preview.

Download the report as a .csv file and upload the file into Google Sheets or Excel. In the spreadsheet, you'll see the size of the product, the size class the product belongs to, and how much you've been charged.
If you have a product on hand, measure each side and compare to the size listed on Amazon. If the measurement fails, you will need to request a remeasurement and /or order reimbursement for that product.
How to Get Amazon to Compensate You by Requesting Remeasurement
How do you get reimbursed from Amazon if you determine that your FBA was overcharged? Your first step is to ask Amazon to remeasure and reweigh your product.
In the upper right corner of Seller Central, click Help. Under the "Recommended for you" section, you'll see "Need more help?" at the bottom.

Click Get Support, and then click Sell on Amazon. Instead of describing your issue here, click "Alternatively, browse your issue in the menu."

Click on "Fulfillment by Amazon," then "Investigate Other FBA Questions."
You will then select "Confirm/Request Reimbursement for Product Weight and Dimensions".

Enter your FNSKU or ASIN, then select "Request Product Remeasurement or Order Expense Reimbursement" as your question and click Next.

Then you are asked to remeasure!

After submitting the ASIN in question, Amazon will show you the current weight and dimensions and state that it will review your request to remeasure the product. This may take several days to complete.
If it turns out that your product is the wrong size, then you will be able to request a refund for every order you overcharged with FBA!
