Bicycle, ski and snowboard helmets for children to which this policy applies
children's bicycle helmet
A bicycle helmet refers to a head-mounted device that is sold on the market, or indicated through marketing, promotion, etc., and can be used to protect the head from injury when the cyclist is riding. Bicycle helmets designed primarily for use by children 12 years of age or younger are considered children's products under the requirements of the US Consumer Product Safety Act and are subject to this policy.
This policy also applies if, among other activities, a helmet is marketed or promoted for use by children while riding a bicycle. Additionally, this policy applies to children's multi-use helmets that are not marketed or promoted as specifying the activity for which they are intended.
This policy does not apply to helmets that are marketed or promoted specifically for designated activities other than cycling (eg, skateboarding, roller skating, baseball, hockey, etc.).
Regular or adult bicycle helmets do not apply to this policy. For more information, see our policy on helmets for bicycles, skis and snowboards.
Children's ski and snowboard helmets
Ski and snowboard helmets are specially designed and manufactured for skis and snowboards. These helmets consist of a rigid outer shell (made of materials including but not limited to plastic, fiberglass, or carbon fiber) and a padded inner liner (usually made of Styrofoam). Ski and snowboard helmets designed primarily for children 12 years of age or younger are considered children's products under the requirements of the US Consumer Product Safety Act and are subject to this policy.
This policy also applies if, among other activities, a helmet is advertised or promoted for use by children on skis or snowboards. Additionally, this policy applies to children's multi-use helmets that are not marketed or promoted as specifying the activity for which they are intended.
This policy does not apply to helmets that are marketed or promoted specifically for designated activities other than skiing or snowboarding (eg, skateboarding, roller skating, baseball, hockey, etc.).
This policy does not apply to regular or adult ski and snowboard helmets. For more information, see our policy on helmets for bicycles, skis and snowboards.
