1. FedEx plans to build a new express center at Baiyun Airport
On August 1, FedEx recently signed an agreement with Guangdong Airport Group Logistics Co., Ltd. to build a new FedEx South China operation center in Guangzhou to upgrade and expand its current Guangzhou port operation center. The new FedEx South China Operations Center will be located in the FedEx Asia Pacific Transit Center at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and is expected to be operational in 2027.
The facility will cover an area of more than 41,000 square meters, including office areas, sorting systems, operation sites and warehouses, more than double the area of the existing FedEx Guangzhou port operation center. The facility is expected to sort up to 25,000 import and export parcels and documents per hour, and the sorting efficiency is three times the processing capacity of the current Guangzhou Port Operation Center. FedEx will fully integrate high-tech and sustainable design concepts in the new facility to provide an environmentally friendly work environment.
2. Amazon: Revenue in the second quarter was $121.2 billion, a year-on-year turnaround from profit to loss
On August 1st, Amazon announced its second fiscal quarter report for 2022. The company's second-quarter net sales were $121.234 billion, up 7% year-on-year. Although it created the slowest growth rate in nearly two decades, total revenue was higher than the market's expected $119.09 billion, which also made Amazon's stock price. It rose 13% after the earnings report.
Net loss in the second quarter was $2.028 billion, compared with a net profit of $7.778 billion in the same period last year; diluted loss per share was $0.20; revenue fell to $3.3 billion, compared to $7.7 billion in the same period in 2021. 3. Hapag-Lloyd's profit in the first half of the year increased by 182% year-on-year
On August 1, Hapag-Lloyd announced its results for the first half of 2022 and raised its full-year profit forecast. According to preliminary statistics, in the first half of the year, Hapag-Lloyd achieved earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of US$10.9 billion, compared with US$4.2 billion in the same period last year, a year-on-year increase of about 160%; U.S. dollars, compared with $3.5 billion in the same period last year, an increase of approximately 182% year-on-year.
In addition, in the first half of 2022, Hapag-Lloyd achieved a freight volume of about 6 million TEUs, the same as the same period of the previous year. It is worth noting that the average freight rate in the first half of the year increased by 80% year-on-year.
4. CMA CGM will impose surcharge on overweight goods from India and the United States
On August 1, French container shipping company CMA CGM imposed a high surcharge on overweight container shipments from India to the United States and Canada. In a new customer notice, the carrier states that 20-foot equivalent containers (including box weight) exceeding 20 tons will be subject to a penalty of $1,000 per TEU until further notice.
CMA CGM (India) said: "This is in addition to any existing surcharges/rules applicable to inland point movements. These charges are in addition to the existing recovery tariff measures."
5. Lazada Singapore site will open the homepage of FBL cross-border products in August

7. Yuantong International and Yunnan International Train to jointly develop China-Laos railway freight market
It was reported on August 1 that YTO International and Yunnan International Express Trade Service Co., Ltd. joined hands for the first time and signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Kunming. 8. Global Logistics reports record-breaking second quarter
On August 1, Universal Logistics Holdings reported record highs in revenue, operating income and earnings per share in its second-quarter earnings report on July 28. The Warren, Michigan-based asset-light transportation and logistics company reported net income of $44.7 million, or $1.69 per diluted share, for the three months ended June 30.
9. In the first half of 2022, Nigeria will maintain the status of China's largest exporter to Africa
On August 1, according to the latest statistics from China Customs, in the first half of 2022, the bilateral trade volume between China and Nepal was US$12.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.1%. Among them, China's export to Nepal was 11.01 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%; its import from Nigeria was 1.02 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 17.7%; the trade surplus was 9.99 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 14.1%. 10. IAG Cargo’s revenue fell in the second quarter
