Wuhan Star Sets Sail: Amazon Replaces Environmentally Friendly Packaging To Attract Environmentalist Buyers
Wuhan Xingqihang learned that according to the latest sustainability report released by Amazon, since 2015, Amazon has discarded more than 1.5 million tons of old packaging and has developed plans to increase recovery and recycling.
In 2021, Amazon will replace nearly 70% of mixed-material bubble wrap in the U.S. with recyclable paper-filled packaging. Its single-use plastic packaging has also been changed to incorporate less plastic material and contain more recycled content. In 2021, the recyclable content in plastic film bags will increase from 25% to 50%. In plastic padded bags, the recycled content jumped from 15% to more than 40%.
The report also revealed that since 2015, Amazon has also reduced the packaging weight of each shipment by 38%.
In the report, Amazon said: “We are working to reduce the amount of products we send to landfill and instead tilt these products toward a circular economy. Much of Amazon’s waste comes from buyer returns and from obsolete and excess inventory in Amazon’s supply chain. , these products at the crossroads of the landfill and recycling economy include excess inventory, returns, cosmetic damage or expiring items.”
Amazon is also working to strengthen the recycling of materials such as plastic film packaging. Many Amazon operating facilities in North America and Europe have on-site plastic film recycling systems, which allow Amazon to convert plastic film into bags made from 100% recycled materials.
Reducing packaging is another focus of Amazon’s recyclability strategy. As environmentalists on Amazon increasingly focus on eco-friendly packaging, these Amazon buyers want right-sized, recyclable packaging to minimize waste and ensure damage-free delivery.
