Amazon HDMI high-definition cable UL safety standard UL758 introduction
UL 758, 3rd Edition, May 2, 2014 – UL Standard for Safe Electrical Wiring Materials
These requirements cover electrical wiring material (AWM) in the form of single insulated conductors, multi-conductor cables, optical fibers, individually insulated conductors and optical fibers used as components of multicore cable assemblies.
Appliance wiring material covered by the requirements of this standard is only intended for use as factory-installed wiring within the integral enclosure of appliances and other equipment (internal wiring) or as external interconnecting cables for appliances (external wiring), or for further processing as multicore cables components in .
These requirements do not cover any wire, cable, or cord types currently covered in the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70, and are not intended to be installed in buildings or structures in accordance with the NEC, except in the installation instructions of the end product for intended use.
These requirements cover electrical wiring materials with an operating temperature of at least 60°C (140°F) dry temperature rating and a voltage rating of at least 30 volt rating. Conductor sizes range from 50 AWG to 2000 kcmil. These requirements also cover appliance wiring materials (AWM) consisting entirely of fiber optic components or electrical conductors combined with fiber optic components.
These requirements do not cover the optical performance of any fiber optic components or groups of such components.
These requirements do not cover structures using flat insulated conductors which are not laid in parallel. Requirements for these products can be found in UL 796F, Standard for Interconnecting Structures with Flexible Materials.
This standard does not cover the performance evaluation of semiconducting polymer layers as described in 5.9.
In addition to these structures, this standard establishes guidelines for the evaluation of special structures that, due to their specific end product use, do not need to meet all the requirements of general structure AWM.
Final acceptance of the AWM is dependent on its use in a complete plant that complies with the standards applicable to such equipment.
