


Star set sail across borders: Amazon India 2022 Great India Festival Prime registrations 1.9 times higher than last year
On September 30, Amazon India announced that the number of Amazon Prime registrations for the Great India Festival in 2022 was 1.9 times higher than last year, of which 68% came from second- and third-tier cities.
In the first 36 hours of the event, SMEs, startups, artisans, women entrepreneurs provided the largest selection of products and sold around 1 million unique products to customers across India.
During the 24-hour Prime Early Access period, the number of registered sellers increased by 1.75 times over the average business day.
Amazon has launched its Diamond Day rewards program this holiday season. Based on all customers' past purchases on Amazon, Amazon will credit customers' accounts with a one-time "reward diamond." Over 50% of customers exchange diamonds for offers and rewards.
Meanwhile, over 300 million Indians have received instant discounts on SBI credit and debit cards through a partnership with India's largest bank, SBI. Customers can enjoy 10% instant discount up to Rs 28,000 on credit and debit cards and EMI transactions.
90% of those who shopped during PEA earned rewards and cashback through Amazon Pay and Amazon Pay gift cards issued, a 1.8x increase over 2021 Prime Early Access.
Compared to last year, Amazon Business has seen about 50% more customers, more than 100% more orders, and more than 200% sales growth. At the same time, the number of customers placing bulk orders for gifts from merchants or businesses has tripled. The number of sellers with at least one commercial order increased by 23% compared to last year.
During the event, a total of 9 new smartphones were launched, and customers shopped from brands such as OnePlus, Samsung, Xiaomi, iQOO, realme, and Apple. Smartphones also saw strong double-digit growth compared to last year, 20 times higher than the average workday.
In terms of beauty, more than 60% of the fashion products Amazon sells come from customers in second- and third-tier cities and towns. Metropolis contributes 36% of Amazon fashion sales; more than 68% of new customers come from non-metropolitan areas.
Meanwhile, India's largest beauty store has seen a surge in demand on Amazon, with sales up three times the average workday in popular categories like skincare and hair care essentials.
On the device side, Amazon customers prefer discounts on Echo devices, making more than 35 Echo Dot smart speaker purchases on an average weekday. The Fire TV Stick was once again one of the top-selling products on Amazon.in, with a 40x increase in sales compared to the average workday, and a 20x increase in Kindle sales.
