Uninterrupted sales of physical and digital products are a sign of the health of Amazon's business. But sometimes, for various (often unexplained) reasons, the status of your customer's order can change to pending or canceled, disrupting the sales process.
Failure to act sooner could result in reduced profits or poor seller feedback!
Fortunately, order-related issues are easy to fix.
So, what are pending orders in Amazon Seller Central? Read on to find out the answer to that question and other order-related questions that may arise in the future!
What does pending order in Amazon Seller Central mean?
After a successful addition to the cart and checkout process, the order will become "pending". Amazon holds orders for 30 minutes to give buyers enough time to cancel them (orders cancelled by buyers appear in Manage Orders and are grayed out, i.e. not actionable) .
The most common reason for a pending order is authorization; Amazon wants to verify the buyer's credit card details and push the order into a pending state for a period of time. The process usually takes around a few minutes, but can take up to 21 days. If the order status remains pending for more than an hour, please contact Amazon Customer Support.
Once the buyer's order details are verified, the order status will change to Unshipped (ie ready to ship) .
Other reasons for an order to go into pending status include:
1. Amazon is preparing your products for FBA customers If an FBA order contains multiple items, but one or more items are out of stock, the order is pending. If desired, Amazon can split the order and ship the available products.
2. During popular holidays like Christmas and Black Friday, there's a good chance your order status will switch to Pending – please be patient as Amazon is currently handling the extra load and is doing its best to ship products on time to customers.
Please note that you will not be able to ship until the product status changes from pending to unshipped.
Where can I find pending orders in Amazon Seller Central?
Pending orders appear on the Manage Orders page, not in the Orders or Unshipped Orders reports. The order is grayed out, which means you won't be able to click Confirm or Cancel.
Also, let's say you only have one unit left in inventory when you place the order. In this case, your listing will disappear from the Amazon offer page until more inventory arrives at the fulfillment center.
How to resolve pending orders on Amazon?
Pending orders are a frequent occurrence on Amazon. The problem occurs if the hang state persists for more than half an hour. The best thing to do is to contact Amazon and ask for more information.
Amazon instructs sellers not to ship pending orders even at the buyer's request. Instead, you can ask your customers to contact Amazon customer service for more information. Amazon can later remove any negative feedback for refusing to ship pending orders.
Can I cancel a pending order on Amazon?
Buyers have 30 minutes to cancel an order, but sellers can cancel the order before it ships. To cancel an order, go to Manage Orders and select Cancel Order in the Actions column . After mentioning the reason for cancellation, click Submit. Buyers will receive an email notification from Amazon when an order is cancelled.
Professional sellers can cancel multiple orders using the order cancellation file. But be careful; a non-standard cancellation of one or more products can negatively impact your seller metrics and put your seller privileges at risk.
Non-standard cancellations are not customer-initiated and include the following:
1. Cancellation of order due to item out of stock
2. Cancellation of order due to undeliverable address
3. Cancellation of order due to unresponsive buyer
4. Automatic cancellation, that is, Amazon cancels the order because 7 days have passed since the estimated delivery date and the seller has not shipped it.
Seller metrics are not affected by standard cancellation requests, fraudulent buyers, or payment verification failures.
