In the cross-border e-commerce Southeast Asian market, there is a market that is actually a blue ocean market. The Southeast Asian market in the eyes of most sellers is Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and other markets. In fact, Singapore is also a Southeast Asian country. Most of the consumers in Singapore are of Chinese descent, and the consumption habits of Chinese consumers are not particularly different.
According to a market survey, 75% of Singaporean consumers say they are willing to buy goods online from overseas, a figure that has nearly doubled compared to before the pandemic. In the survey, the main reason why Singapore consumers are willing to buy overseas products online is lower prices, and 54% of the respondents said they shop online because of cheaper prices. 48% of consumers said that the main reason for shopping online is to buy products that are not available locally in Singapore to meet their daily needs. 39% of consumers shop online mainly to find novelty products online. Regardless of the reason for shopping online, the number of consumers shopping online in Singapore is growing.
In the consumer survey, the most frequently purchased product of consumers is clothing, and 44% of consumers said that they generally buy shoes and clothing products on the Internet. At the same time, consumers will also buy electronic products and cosmetics on cross-border e-commerce platforms. These two products are relatively cheaper to buy online than offline. In addition, electronic products account for more consumers in Singapore than cosmetics. From the perspective of consumption habits, consumers generally prefer to buy practical products online.
The survey also shows that 55% of consumers are willing to pay more if they can easily shop online. Consumers in Singapore also value the delivery market for their products, with one-third of respondents opting for services that offer fast local delivery.
