Selling on Amazon is an incredible way to build a business and earn income, but with these benefits comes competition and the need to protect your Amazon business.
In a study of nearly 5,000 Amazon sellers , 95% said they plan to expand their business this year. However, many have expressed concerns about their business risks, including:
48% are concerned about Chinese suppliers selling their/similar products at lower cost
48% are concerned about hijackers/copycats on their list
39% of sellers worry about being squeezed out as a "middleman" between suppliers (mostly in China) and consumers
The best way sellers can protect themselves from these concerns? Register their brand trademark with Amazon's Brand Registry.
This article delves into the features and benefits of Amazon Brand Registry, how to get started, and how trademarks and other strategies can help you protect your Amazon business .
What is Amazon's Brand Registry?
Amazon Brand Registry is an exclusive program offered by Amazon to legalize your brand. It also gives you an advantage over non-registered brands.
Amazon Statement:

Provides a tool to monitor your brand on Amazon.

Allow someone other than you (the brand owner) to file infringement claims with other sellers.
Grants you access to the Amazon store where you can promote your brand with your own multi-page store.
Increase awareness with advanced advertising strategies like Sponsored Brands and Display Advertising.
Allows you to live stream and interact with potential customers via Amazon Live.
Do you need an Amazon Brand Registry trademark?
The Brand Registry program requires you to have a registered trademark for your product in order to apply. In the United States, this means that you need to register your trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office ( USPTO ).
How long does it take to register a trademark?
Generally, you can expect to wait at least a year for a response from the USPTO.
Fortunately, you don't have to wait a year to get your brand approved by Amazon.
Amazon offers a service called IP Accelerator that connects Amazon business owners with intellectual property (IP) attorneys who will help you with the trademark process.
If you work with Amazon's carefully selected intellectual property experts, Amazon will approve your product for brand registration before your trademark application is accepted.
How long does Amazon Brand Registry approval take?
Assuming you already own a trademark, or you have submitted an application through the IP Accelerator program, the entire approval process will take approximately two weeks. Just make sure you submit everything Amazon needs for your brand the first time around.
Also, be sure to review all eligibility requirements and note that your brand must have a valid registered trademark in each country you wish to register.
