U.S. holiday shopping season kicks off early, 98% of consumers choose Amazon to shop

For most of 2022, Americans have been dealing with high inflation, spending more on food, fuel and housing. In this case, major retailers will also launch their holiday deals earlier than ever to attract more cautious shoppers.

In anticipation of slower sales growth, retailers plan to cater to consumers who want more bargains and longer shopping hours so they don't have to spend all their holiday budgets in a month.

Last year, consumers spent their money early on holiday shopping, largely because they feared supply chain disruptions, extended shipping times, and inability to buy items.

This year, analysts and retailers expect consumers to shop early in the season as well, but because of inflation, consumers will spend more time and effort planning their shopping budgets than spending the week or two before the peak holiday season.

98% of consumers choose Amazon to shop

More than 14,400 U.S. consumers participated in the latest research report on consumer trends for the U.S. holiday season this year.

71% of U.S. consumers choose both online and offline channels to buy holiday gifts. 73% of U.S. consumers plan to shop online only to buy what they need for the holiday season. Among them, 98% of consumers said that Amazon has become their preferred online shopping platform. In addition to Amazon, 43% of the younger generation and 35% of millennials intend to shop on Etsy, while the silent generation tends to shop on eBay.

Data shows that 63% of U.S. consumers believe persistent inflation and an impending recession have affected their holiday shopping plans. To save money on holiday gifts, 49% plan to buy specials, 37% plan to limit the number of gifts they can buy, and 36% plan to shop online frequently to save on transportation costs for offline shopping.

More than half of U.S. consumers plan to start their holiday shopping early. Of those, 40% plan to start shopping for holiday season gifts before Thanksgiving, a 15% increase from last year. 27% of consumers plan to start their holiday shopping before Halloween, an 18% increase from last year.

Continued inflation has affected consumers' budgets for the holiday season. At this critical time, brands should provide consumers with product value as much as possible to attract consumers to place orders. Retailers and sellers, both online and offline, should start discounting early this year, ahead of the holiday season, as most U.S. consumers plan to start their holiday shopping early this year.

How to stock up on FBA sellers in peak shopping season

September is coming to an end, and the holiday shopping season in the United States is getting closer after the National Day holiday. During holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Years, consumers will spend far more online than other non-holiday time periods. For the next few months, as an Amazon seller, you need to make sure you are fully prepared.

When it comes to FBA stocking, as of June 20, Amazon's official IPI score assessment week has ended. If it is higher than 400 points, sellers with unlimited storage capacity in Q3 will make stocking much easier. However, it is also necessary to pay attention to the problem of logistics timeliness, and sellers with limited storage capacity need to be more careful.

In general, two points should be paid attention to in the stocking plan for the peak season in the second half of the year: on the one hand, the stocking plan should be 1-2 months ahead of previous years;

For hot-selling, seasonal, and consumer-demanding commodities, stock up on more stock, so that when the inventory capacity decreases, the FBA warehouse can be directly allocated and replenished and put on the shelves in time to speed up the turnover of storage capacity. insufficient problem.
